The Hidden Oracle (MMGM)

You should check out my friend JollytheGeek’s blog! It’s awesome. And today (June 11) he will be featuring Keeper of the Lost Cities!

Title: The Hidden Oracle (Trials of Apollo #1)
Author: Rick Riordan
Publisher: Disney Hyperion
Publication date: 2016
Pages: 376 (hardback)
Age recommendation: 10

“I will never understand how you mortals tolerate it. You live your entire life trapped in a sack of meat, unable to enjoy simple pleasures like changing into a hummingbird or dissolving into pure light.”

“After being alive for so many millennia, I have trouble keeping track of time. I hear a song on Spotify and think, ‘Oh, that’s new!’ Then I realize it is Mozart’s Piano Concerto no. 20 in D Minor from three hundred years ago. Or I wonder why Herodotus the historian isn’t in my contacts list. Then I remember Herodotus didn’t have a smartphone, because he’s been dead since the Iron Age.”

“Ah, everything was better in ancient Greece! Well, except for a few small improvements modern humans have made–the Internet, chocolate croissants, life expectancy.”

“Gods always like to keep a few strong veterans handy to throw into battle, send on dangerous quests, or pick the lint off our togas.”

“You are gorgeous and people love you!”

There are so many reasons to love this book! Let’s start out with the fact that I *might* have finished this when I was supposed to be sleeping-and I might have also had a possible concussion…It was just so addicting! Can you really blame me? Another reason is the plot, Riordan’s plots always include mythology and gods. And while they might not be the most complex, they are always interesting, fun, and action packed! Reason number three is the characters. Meg, Apollo’s…’master’ is really different from other characters Rick’s written. Unlike Percy and Magnus, she still is a kid. A dangerous one for sure, but still a kid while Percy and Magnus just felt so much more older (maybe not mature wise, but still older) ;). An Apollo. No words can describe him. He could very, very easily be the annoying, whiny, narcissistic character we all hate. Or he could be the character that drowns himself in teen angst and self pity (Character: NO ONE CAN HELP ME! NO ONE CAN FIX THIS! WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE! I AM SUCH A HORRIBLE PERSON! Side character: Um, this can be fixed if you just (insert solution here) Character: NO ONE CAN FIX THIS! WERE’NT YOU LISTENING? …a few days later… Character: I’M GOING TO FIX THIS USING THIS BRILLIANT IDEA I DID NOT STEAL AND TAKE CREDIT FOR FROM SIDE CHARACTER!!!) but he’s not. He is a narcissistic character that sometimes thinks about other people enough for us to love him! THE FOURTH, FINAL, BEST REASON TO READ THIS BOOK! Is…the shipping. I wasn’t really on the Solangelo ship (I actually didn’t know it existed until about a month ago) But then I read this book and THEY ARE OFFICIALLY MY FAVORITE SHIP! The are SO DANG CUTE together, I might have a heart attack just so I can meet Nico and Will at their second wedding in the Underworld (I’m assuming that Apollo would refuse to go the Underworld and Hades would refuse to leave).

“Nico,” I said at last, “shouldn’t you be sitting at the Hades table?”

He shrugged. “Technically, yes. But if I sit alone at my table, strange things happen. Cracks open in the floor. Zombies crawl out and start roaming around. It’s a mood disorder. I can’t control it. That’s what I told Chiron. “

“And is it true?” I asked.

Nico smiled thinly. “I have a note from my doctor.”

Will raised his hand. “I’m his doctor.”

THE FEELS!!!!!!! ❤ ❤ ❤ (for those of you wondering, Sokeefe is still my #1 ship. But they aren’t together…yet…so I have to have a ship that for sure won’t sink) And the unofficial fifth reason is, THERE’S PERCY!!! *sighs dreamily* 😉

Fabulous Quotes!

“Sacred Sibyl!” I cried. “Madam, there is something wrong with your midsection!”

The woman stopped, mystified, and looked down at her hugely swollen belly. “Well, I’m seven months pregnant.”

I wanted to cry for her.

“Will put his hand on Nico’s shoulder. “Nico, we need to have another talk about your people skills.”
“Hey, I’m just stating the obvious. If this is Apollo, and he dies, we’re all in trouble.”
Will turned to me. “I apologize for my boyfriend.”
Nico rolled his eyes. “Could you not―”
“Would you prefer special guy?” Will asked. “Or significant other?”
“Significant annoyance, in your case,” Nico grumbled”

“He faced us. “You hear that, guys? A batch of cookies is depending on me. If you get me killed on the way to camp, I am going be ticked off.”

What Does the Cat Think?

AHHHHH! Not acne!!!!!

I give this book 5 stars out of 5!!!

(Sorry if there were any mistakes, I had to post this one my phone)
