Sometimes our enemies are also our only allies…

After an explosion destroys his ship, the world believes Prince Merik, Windwitch, is dead. Scarred yet alive, Merik is determined to prove his sister’s treachery. Upon reaching the royal capital, crowded with refugees, he haunts the streets, fighting for the weak—which leads to whispers of a disfigured demigod, the Fury, who brings justice to the oppressed.

When the Bloodwitch Aeduan discovers a bounty on Iseult, he makes sure to be the first to find her—yet in a surprise twist, Iseult offers him a deal. She will return money stolen from him, if he locates Safi. Now they must work together to cross the Witchlands, while constantly wondering, who will betray whom first?

After a surprise attack and shipwreck, Safi and the Empress of Marstok barely escape with their lives. Alone in a land of pirates, every moment balances on a knife’s edge—especially when the pirates’ next move could unleash war upon the Witchlands. ~ Goodreads

This is one of those books that I’ve read the first one, then eagerly await the next one. Counting down the days on my calendar. I absolutely LOVED Truthwitch, and I couldn’t wait to read Windwitch. Needless to say-my expectations were high. First off, the author does a fabulous job sweeping me back into the story. I’m reminded about what happened in the last book, (unfortunately I’d forgotten a lot) and reacquainted with old characters.

The Windwitch world is one of those books where even though there are terrible things happening, you still wish that you could be there because it’s just so cool. Honestly, I just love all of the different characters and the uniqueness of their powers. I love how there are some extremely powerful characters, there are boundaries and limits to their powers and they don’t become overpowered. That’s something that a lot of authors struggle with.

Unfortunately I was also very disappointed in this book. Sadly, it suffers from Insta-Love™ syndrome. It’s not as severe as some…but…bleh. Also, there was very little character development. And even though the book moved fast and a lot happened, I felt like there were too many POVs and not a lot that actually happened.

Plus, I was confused for a lot of scenes, and I felt like the author used extreme violence and gore to cover for furthering the plot. Also, there were WAY too many Come Back From The Dead Characters. Like, WAYYYY too many. Please, just, let your characters die. PLEASE. And I wished that the author had gone into depth with the witchery and power development. After all, it’s called the Witchland series. Right? Like…that’s sorta why I read the book? For awesome powers??? Though I have to admit, the Shadowman was AWESOME. But even his powers were left basically untouched. Even the beautiful cover doesn’t make up for that :/

Fabulous Quotes

“Oh, I know!” Safi clapped her hands, delighted by her own genius. “I shall call you Un-empressed.”
“Please,” Vaness said coldly, “stop this immediately.”
Safi absolutely did not.

There were advantages to being a dead man.

That tree, Merik thought, as he eyed the longest branch, looks like it might soon join me in death.

What Does the Cat Think?

Only YOU can catch all the mice. Before it’s too late…

I give this book 4 stars out of 5!

Argh I got BTS’s ‘Fire’ stuck in my head, rip ;-; XD

  1. I know how it is to really love a book and then be a bit disappointed by the sequel. I read a series about pegasis’ and loved the first three books, but was disappointed in the final book. Glad, I rarely review fantasy, although I love reading the books.
